Book Your 4,500 Avios Awards Soon!

With 2 weeks left until British Airways eliminates the 4,500 one-way awards originating or terminating from the US, NOW is the time to consider booking a short-haul flight before February 2, 2016.

Starting on February 3rd the cheapest one-way award you can book from the United States will start at 7,500. Here and Here I’ve shared with you about how much I absolutely LOVE booking short-haul American Airlines flights with BA Avios since using Avios saves me a ton more points/miles than booking with AA miles. What a sweet spot!

Avios Award Chart – 4,500 the SWEET spot for short-haul flights like MIA-CUN

As a reminder, BA has a distance-based award chart. See below for one-way flight distance cost.

  • 4,500 Avios for a one-way economy flight of 1-650 miles
  • 7,500 Avios for a one-way economy flight of 651-1,151 miles
  • 10,000 Avios for a one-way economy flight of 1,152-2,000 miles

From Miami (on American Airlines) you can fly to these locations for only 4,500 Avios each way:

  • Atlanta
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Freeport, Bahamas
  • Marsh Harbor, Bahamas
  • George Town, Bahamas
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Kingston, Jamaica
  • Cancun, Mexico
  • Cozumel, Mexico
  • Grand Cayman Island
  • Turks and Caicos

From New York City (on American Airlines) you can fly to these locations for only 4,500 Avios each way:

  • Boston
  • Charlotte
  • Cleveland
  • Montreal
  • Raleigh-Durham
  • Toronto
  • Washington, DC

After February 2nd, the same trip will cost you 7,500 one-way which is still a very good use of your points but if you want a 9,000 roundtrip to the Caribbean, I suggest you book in the next 2 weeks. Travel can be taken anytime after February 2nd but you have to book prior to this date. Check flights from your city for short-haul and medium-haul routes.

Bottom line:

The 4,500 one-way Avios award from the US will cease to exist on February 2nd. If you’re planning on traveling through January 2017 anytime and have a short-haul destination in mind, you should save a ton and lock in a 9,000 Avios roundtrip booking. As a reminder, you can transfer your Chase, Amex or SPG points to British Airways for FREE and book your flight with Avios. You simply need to open a British Airways Executive Club frequent flyer account for free and then search for award availability here.

Do you plan on booking a 4,500 Avios award prior to February 2nd?
