Date Night II + HOT Giveaway

I hope all of you had a wonderful thanksgiving weekend and if you went shopping on Black Friday, it was well worth the wait. I didn’t do any shopping on Friday but I did secure a babysitter (Thanks Mom) so DD Mommy and I could take advantage of the day off and have some adult time to ourselves.

We went to our old neighborhood to start the night off at Cafeïna Wynwood Lounge where we had celebrated DD Mommy’s birthday many years ago. In  typical ‘parental fashion’, we arrived early around 6:30pm and the only people there were the bartenders, a guy on a piano and group of 4 people sitting on stools singing their little hearts out.

Miami isn’t really known as a city with a strong presence of piano bars but on this night (and every Friday night), Cafeina would turn into one and by the time we sang a few songs and sipped on our wine, the place was packed! I noticed A LOT of couples, young and old, just enjoying the live music and singing along to each and every song, probably something you’d see all over New Orleans but not in Miami.  The piano man, as I like to call him, took everyone’s requests and engaged the crowd with self-depricating remarks that were light-hearted and funny.

The plan was to finish our wine and then walk around Wynwood for a bit while we work up our appetite for dinner. A planner by nature, I opened up my Yelp app and began looking for new places to eat near us. Surprised to see Alter Miami by Chef Brad Kilgore (a tough table to get) located just a few doors down from Cafeina, I opted to take a chance and call to see if they had space. Alter is a hot, new fine-dining restaurant in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood and is more reminiscent of the hot spot restaurants you’d find in San Francisco or New York but Chef Brad Kilgore is making a name for Miami. Fairly certain I wouldn’t get a table, I did!

We downed finished our bottle of wine, tipped the awesome piano man and rushed over for dinner and the rest is history. Too tired from the night (it was only 9pm) and with our babysitter waiting, we went home with our bellies full and our vocal chords content.

If you’re in need of a date night with that special someone, I’d love to help you make that happen. Leave a comment on this post, or on Facebook or Twitter, sharing your best date night experience and I’ll give ONE lucky reader a $50 gift card to Red Steakhouse on South Beach, named 1 of the top 10 steakhouses in the country. Red is a great spot for a date night and the food really is superb. Winner will be chosen this Friday.

My best date night was my second date with my now-husband. We met in New York on a somewhat blind date (both having previously lived in Miami, yet never met each other in the 305 despite mutual friends and having lived on the same street- weird right?!) he flew me down to visit my beloved Magic City for a weekend for our second date. That evening included a sexy steak, a stunning bottle of wine and our fate was sealed. Here we are 2 years later very happily married and now living back in Miami. We are somewhat exhausted, however, being the parents of a 5 month old baby boy who hasn’t quite been “sleep trained” yet (and dad has been begging me to find a sitter for a date night). Would love to recreate an evening of steak and sizzle to surprise him!

Although I am endlessly grateful to wifey for being the amazing other half on many memorable date nights… I have to point out a recent night that started out at Tuyo above Miami Dade College.

We had am amazing quiet dinner and were lucky enough to be two of a total of 6 diners who were at Tuyo that night. We had a table very close to the window giving us a lovely view of the downtown Miami skyline from much higher up than “Miamians” are accustomed to. After dinner and drinks we walked over to Will Call for a Nightcap and a couple Jamesons paired with a great local live band that was on that night.

Going from Tuyo to Will Call was all of what’s awesome about Miami in the sense that all of 1block away from each other the two places could not be more different… But that’s what made the nice so fun.. That’s what makes Miami special and in many ways that’s what makes the Mrs and I who we are… Sophiscated when we please but just as willing to kick back and rock on!
