I Matched To Hilton Diamond And You Can Too!

Hilton HHonors has launched a new campaign that is valid through June 30, 2016, where if you have any type of status with another hotel chain (from credit card sign-up or actual stays), they will match you to the equivalent with Hilton until March 2018!

How To Get Hilton Status Match:

All you have to do is email Hilton at and upload a screenshot of your status with another hotel chain, your name and membership number. It should take anywhere from 7-14 days to get your new status.

Thanks to the travel blogging community, I found an amazing shortcut to earn Hilton Diamond (Hilton’s highest elite status) by simply having the Chase IHG credit card which comes with automatic IHG Platinum Elite status. Platinum should equate to Hilton Gold status but since there is no equivalent to Diamond with IHG, Hilton is being generous and giving out Diamond status for those Chase IHG cardholders who are by default, Platinum.

I got the Chase IHG credit card 2 months ago because I felt the $49 annual fee each year EASILY pays for a free night at ANY IHG property worldwide. Hotels such as the InterContinental Paris Le Grand and InterContinental London Park Lane have regular rates of $400 and up so paying $49 each year to stay at a top IHG property is an absolute NO-BRAINER for me.  I consider this card a keeper simply for the free night but now I value it much more because the automatic platinum status just got me Hilton DIAMOND status for the next 2 years!

What Will I Get With Hilton’s Highest Elite Diamond Status?

Well, normally to earn Hilton Diamond status, I would need to spend 60 nights a year at Hilton properties (yeah, that’s not happening).

With Hilton Diamond elite status, I’ll get perks such as:

  • Complimentary access to the Executive Lounge (separate breakfast location, hot food, wine and beer FREE)
  • Free breakfast at many Hilton brand hotels, including Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Conrad, Curio, and DoubleTree
  • Room upgrades when available
  • 50% point bonus on paid stays
  • Complimentary access to fitness centers and health clubs
  • Complimentary premium Internet access
  • Late check-out when available

I’ll be staying at Hilton properties in Chicago, Cincinnati and Tokyo this year so we’ll see how “perky” the new status feels. Hilton isn’t as generous as other hotel chains when it comes to benefits for elites but top-tier Hilton status can’t hurt when staying at any Hilton portfolio hotel.

If you have an American Express Platinum card (comes with SPG Gold and you’ll get Hilton Gold), Chase Hyatt card (comes with Hyatt Platinum and you’ll get Hilton Gold) or Chase IHG card (comes with IHG Platinum and you’ll get Hilton Diamond), email Hilton and request a status match. You have until June 30, 2016 to submit request.
