The Travel Hacker

I’m a travel hacker. Sounds bad, right? A more politically correct way to describe it is I’m a credit card/miles/points/travel enthusiast who knows a thing or two about how credit scores are compiled, each banks’ credit card products, points earning structure and the ins and outs of airline/hotel reward programs.Travel HackI have the travel bug, always have.  My kids will certainly have it also as they grow up and we expose them to lots of cool travel experiences. G&O already know what an “avión” is, that’s airplane in spanish and they love to make the airplane sound, something like “fsssssheeew”. Fewer things make me gush more than seeing them do that.

I’ve long been all about finding travel deals. A few years ago, I discovered Boardingarea.com and Flyertalk.com and became fully engulfed into the points/miles hobby. On Boarding Area I would read (and still do) 10-12 blog posts a day from leading bloggers in the hobby and then tweet them questions on their posts. Most are willing to help out a hungry newbie that’s just starting off in this complex hobby, some aren’t. I began commenting on flyertalk, a tight-knit online travel community that discusses every topic in travel, many subjects too confusing for the novice traveler. Topics like “manufactured spending” (won’t even go there) and “mileage running”, that’s the art of flying on a cheap fare somewhere JUST to earn miles/status to then turnaround and fly back same-day, sometimes not even leaving the airport.

Travel topics for “normal” folks exist, but the intention is it’s a tip-top source of inside travel information for travel junkies and folks in the points/miles hobby. I will share many of the tricks of the trade in the blog with you. You may never become an obsessed-points-driven maniac as myself or maybe you will, but as a consumer, you have the right to know how to save money and give your family the world of travel without having to reach into your 401K account or sell valuables or save up for years, to fund a trip.

To be notified of great deals by the minute, follow theflightdeal.com and airfarewatchdog.com on social media. They will alert you daily on flight deals.

Bon Voyage!
