JAL Online Award Search Suspended: Website Down

The last couple of days, I’ve been monitoring seat availability on the JAL American Region website for an aspirational trip to Japan for DD Mommy and I on JAL’s First Class Sky Suite. As one of the most in-demand premium products in the sky, naturally demand is always high on these first and business class seats as you’ll normally find 1 or 2 seats open on any given day if you’re looking for J and sometimes no seats for F availability.

One of the most comfy lie-flat products in the world.

Well today I logged into JAL’s website to gauge availability on these seats and noticed this message:

After the initial panic attack wore off, I called the JAL Mileage Bank Center (reservations & information desk) to see if the notice about online services (flight schedules, award booking, web check-in) being temporarily suspended were true and in fact, they were. The CSR told me that on December 12th, most online services like flight schedules and flight seat availability would be suspended until April 2016. Wait what?!? Reason being? JAL’s website is being revamped.

Moral of the story: Starting on December 12th, you’ll have to call Japan Airlines American Region reservations center (1-800-525-3663) to check on international award availability. This hurts for many of us who already had a hard time finding open seats for JAL’s F product. Another hurdle to overcome. First world problems, but UGH.
